Bodyboarder Damien Prisk surfs to victoryCornwall bodyboarder Damien Prisk showed his best small wave form for years to become the 2007 British Bodyboarding Champion in Porthtowan in early November.

The Camborne bodyboarder fought off challenges from finalists Alex Winkworth, Darren Halse and Mark Griffiths to take the title in clean three foot waves at the contest sponsored by Smith & Williamson Solomon Hare.

With results forming the basis of the decisions about who will be selected to represent Britain at the World Surfing Games in Portugal this coming June, the country’s best bodyboarders were keener than ever to show off their skills and impress judges.

Prisk only caught three waves during the twenty minute final, but selected wisely, pulling off some awesome moves and wowing the judges. On one wave he stacked up 14 separate moves - three rolls, a cuttie reverse and a stack of other spins.

Bodyboarder Clemmie Hardy in actionClemmie Hardy pulled off some impressive reverses to take the women’s title ahead of Lauren Musgrave caused a commotion and picked up penalty points by dropping in on favourite Gemma Harris.

The Senior division saw Newquay’s Rob Barber end his 15 year competitive career on a high with a convincing win over old rival Danny Catten.

Some hot talent emerged in the Under 14’s with Dan Garton from Jersey just pipping Ed Hone to take the title.

In the Under 16’s, Luke Brabyn put in a good performance, edging Bournemouth’s Nathan McCabe into second.

Joe Hone was the stand out in the Under 18’s division back in September, but this time around it was Jersey’s David Speller who shone, showing a cool head to take the title.

Karen Walton, National Director of the British Surfing Association, said: “The level of riding during the competition was just outstanding.”
