The 19th Jesus Surf Classic at Croyde Bay is this weekend, 10 - 11 September 2011. This year's competition sees increased prize money, the new Groms ( U12 ) division continuing , and the mobile Skatepark and contest. This hugely successful surf contest has been running for 19 years and this year’s competition looks like being another great event. The Jesus Surf Classic is organised and run by Christian Surfers UK and this year, as well as the free contest T-shirt for each competitor, and BBQ voucher, there is over £1700 of prize money, to be shared between the eight categories, with the Open men’s surfing champion receiving £300, and increased prize money for the Women’s Open, and U18’s Division. It is also one of the few events remaining that have a ‘Masters’ division ( Over 35’s ), always hotly contested. The event is widely regarded as a bit of an end of summer surf festival, with a mellow vibe, and lots of other entertainment than just the surfing. There will be a Big Move skateboard competition on Saturday and Sunday afternoon ( Weather permitting ) in the purpose-built skate park. We are looking forward to seeing lots of skaters coming down to this event once again. With some early Autumn weather predicted, competitors and their supporters will be able to keep warm and dry in the marquee, chilling with refreshments, crepes and watching surfing DVD’s on the big screen TV. As before, over 100 Christian Surfers volunteers from around the country will be involved in organising the weekend, making it ideal for competitors, supporters, and of course their families. The standard of surfing is always very high, with Woolacombe local, Stuart Campbell, aiming to retain the Men’s event, and Looe’s Gabi Rowe competing again to try and retain her Junior and Open Women’s divisions, along with a nice cheque and trophy. It is also however a great opportunity for those wishing to enter their first competition, in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. We have agreed a 2½ day special rate for the Ruda campsite with Parkdean Holidays for competitors and their supporters. This means that you can stay on your pitch for all of Sunday. When booking your camping pitch, mention that you are a competitor and get the special rate. We are grateful once again to Parkdean Holidays for their support. The Jesus Surf Classic has become one of the biggest and longest running surf contests in the UK, and Christian Surfers UK are once again very much looking forward to hosting it at one of the best beach breaks on the North Coast, Croyde Bay.
